WARRIOR NUN OCS BRAZIL WILLIAM MILLER SPACE QUESTIONS
OCS: TELL US ABOUT WARRIOR NUN BRAZIL? HOW MANY MEMBERS
Warrior Nun BRAZIL was originally created in 2020 by Paula. Today it has two more admins, Jay and Gi. The entire construction of the space had the collaboration of Nina, Maya and also Pâmela, who is one of the administrators of Warrior Nun TV.
OCS: HOW DID THE SPACE WITH WILLIAM MILLER HAPPEN?
Since season 2 was released, the entire fandom have been hoping to get an interview with the cast. A team ended up coming together to find ways to get some interviews, eventually Jay contacted William on Twitter and, as always, he was just amazing and agreed to talk to us.
OCS: WHAT WERE SOME OF THE LOGISTICAL CHALLENGES?
We didn't have many, there was a lot of conversation before Jay contacted William. In addition to being able to provide this proximity of the Brazilian fandom with him [William], we wanted guarantees such as: organization and safety, for William and the listeners to feel welcome and respected. And of course, a good translation that actually felt like an interview. But that was fairly easy, and we believe we did pretty well in terms of the actual interview.
Perhaps the biggest challenge was reconciling our work and study schedules with time to discuss and set up the space, mainly because we would have two on the same day. (The second one was on Jay's profile, we interviewed Cheska, it was great! And we had help from Avy, Chessy and Vanne)
OCS: CAN I GET THE TWITTER NAMES/HANDLES OF THE EACH PERSON INVOLVED?
Paula (@OxePaulaa) - founder of WNBR (@WarriorNunBr_)
Pâmela (@avatricce) - one of the administrators of WarriorNunTv (@TVWarriorNun)
Jay (@soloavatrice)
Gi (@haizwelch)
Nina (@NinaLovaro)
Maya (@mmavecc)
OCS: WILL EACH OF YOU EXPLAIN THE ROLES YOU HAD DURING THE SPACE?
Jay: In the space I was the Host. I couldn't say much because I wasn't feeling very well, but as our team is united I had Nina's full support to help me with the questions and she was also uploading the questions in the space. All of us there had a role, but the most important thing is that we were together, supporting one another, it's something surreal, as if it we were one. There was that whole moment when we stopped and thought "Are we going to be able to ask good questions?" "Let's think of something that makes him comfortable."
Even if one of us forgot something or there was an unforeseen event, someone from the team would be able to help right away. We had an arrangement so that not only William and the host along with the speakers would feel comfortable, but the fans who were listening as well. An interesting idea was the live translation, our dear May did a perfect and surreal job, where she shared that moment with many people who don’t know English and gave an opportunity for the fans to understand what was going on. It was wonderful to work with Team WNBR and Team WNTV, I would do it again without a second thought.
Maya: I did the simultaneous translation in the space. I was very nervous, I had never done simultaneous translation, especially when interviewing someone I admire so much! But the team gave me a lot of support and made me feel very safe, they were amazing and I can't thank them enough. In the end, I was very happy with the way the space was received and, of course, what made me the happiest was knowing that I collaborated in making Brazilian fans who don't speak English feel included. Inclusion is one of the reasons we love this show so much, so being able to make some people feel seen makes me really happy, and I hope I can do that more often.
Gi: During the space I was co-host and I was in charge of making the introduction and explaining how the space works in English, so that whoever was listening and wasn't Brazilian would also stay on top of everything. I also asked William a few questions and continued on with some subjects so as not to be just questions and answers and to bring a more relaxed dynamic during the interview. I was also able to be ready in case any of the girls needed help with English but luckily the space went well and everything went as planned, I believe that the trust we built in each other contributed a lot to making everything work out and we had a safe and comfortable environment both for William as well as for us and anyone else listening.
Nina: During the space I should only upload the questions in Portuguese and English, so the space wouldn't lose so much rhythm, the girls would ask the questions and Maya would only translate the answers and that would give us a little extra time for questions. But on the day Jay was a little sick, I ended up agreeing to ask two questions so she wouldn’t have to talk as much. It was a little scary, I'm not very confident with my English, but it was a really cool experience and I would certainly do it again.
OCS: WHAT MADE YOU WANT TO BE APART OF THIS SPACE? HOW MANY HOURS WERE INVOLVED IN THE PROJECT?
Nina: There is something special when our favorite artists speak to Brazil. A special exchange, every Brazilian feels it. And like we said, we were looking forward to some kind of interaction coming from Netflix with the audience, so even after the cancellation, we didn't want to give up on trying to get that interaction.
But I think that in a more personal answer, I remember when I didn't understand a word in English and I was very frustrated not to find subtitles. I'm still not fluent in English but I do well most of the time. So today when I see some Brazilians on the tml saying they didn't understand some things (or absolutely nothing) about spaces, that takes me back years to when I was in that place. So that made me want to help make this happen, being able to work to provide this contact is amazing! Me and everyone on the wnbr team would love to have more opportunities like this.
And about how many hours, it's hard to say, everything was planned and discussed over two weeks.
Jay: We know how important this visibility we have in Brazil is to help promote the series and try to save it. Brazilian energy is something surreal and is part of something bigger, which is being able to try and help return with the series and it is very rewarding for us to be able to share the strength that we have by being part of it all.
The rest of the team felt contemplated by the answers above.
OCS: ANY FUTURE PLANS FOR OCS BRAZIL (SPACES/BILLBOARD/MEET-UPS/WATCH PARTIES)?
R: The WNBR Team is recent, we are still discovering the logistics of what kind of work works within our country. We are very aware that we are all together, all over the world, fighting for the same cause, but we also know that within each country/culture it is necessary to organize itself in a way that works.
A Meet-up (fan meeting) can be complicated due to the fact that fans of the show are not concentrated in cities like São Paulo/Rio de Janeiro for example, the halo bearers are from the south to the north of our country, and traveling in Brazil can be difficult (so sometimes it's easier to organize online events) but it's something we'd love to be able to help organize. But we know that some fans have been organizing into small groups in their states.
The billbord is being organized by Kell (@AVATRICC) with support from Warrior Nun Brasil and Warrior Nun TV
Kell has also been talking to Sarah and Kelsey from GoFundMe, they've been giving some instructions for pushing the campaign forward. Kell has some news coming up, but she can't tell us about it yet.
WATCH PARTIES are already organized by Warrior Nun TV and they tend to be really cool. WNTV has also organized a space on mental health, mainly focusing on the impact of shows with LGBTQIA+ representation and the impact of the struggle to save the series on our mental health. That space had the presence of professionals of the area who are part of the fandom (Alee Mary (@mrthey1tz) and Bia Alves (@beatrizalvespsq) and it was very beautiful and important.
In general Gi, Nina and Pâmela always try to create some dynamic to move the main tag #SaveWarriorNun (as happened with the tag "#DeuMatchWN" a few weeks ago) or open/participate in spaces to discuss the show or just relax with the fandom, a way for us to have an exchange and stay positive and firm in the fight.
But we definitely want to do more Interview Spaces! We are ready for this, we just need positive responses. In addition, we are also open to collaborations.
OCS: FEEL FREE TO ADD ANYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD LIKE
We thank you for the opportunity to talk a little bit about what we've done. We are very happy with how the space was received and we hope we can do more to help #SaveWarriorNun!
