OCS: How did you get into cosplay?

I started making props and armor for fun in 2005. In 2008 a workplace injury caused me to lose my sight & I could no longer safely work with resin or metal. To keep my brain occupied & prevent me from being a grumpy nutter, my doctor challenged me to find a way to do the things I used to do, so I started working with EVA foam & that turned into a desire to make cosplay items.

OCS: How did you discover you had talent to create the templates and items?

Lol, I didn't. I was terrible at it, but I can't stand not being able to do something, so I just did it anyway until I figured it out.

OCS: What was the first item you ever made?

My first project was a fantasy helmet from a video game & it was objectively terrible. It probably looked more like a toaster than a helmet.

It was a birthday gift for an 8-year-old & he liked it but to this day I cringe just thinking about it!

These days, I have software & equipment that "sees" for me & it is MUCH easier to create custom items. Though none of it would be possible without help from my friend @Cmndrlex - she is my "eyes" for a lot of projects. She's also the one that got me hooked on the show.

OCS: From concept to finished product how long did it take to make Ava’s vest?

Ava's vest took me one week to complete once I had a detailed description & screenshots.

OCS: What made you join the campaign to save the show?

I love the show & was really looking forward to next season. Like everyone, I was very disappointed in Netflix's decision not to renew. When I heard about the fight to save the show, I really wanted to do something to help. I loved the billboard idea & I thought donating something to help fund more of them would be a fun way to help.

OCS: Why donate Ava’s vest to help spread the word about the website?

I used to make Storm Trooper armor & I remembered how much press the 501st Legion gets when they show up to events dressed in full armor.

When I heard that fans were going to the billboard & taking photos, I thought it would be great if fans could have Warrior Nun costumes when they take billboard photos, do meet-ups or other public appearances.

OCS: Have you been inspired to make other Warrior Nun cosplay items?

I'm planning to make more WN items such as:

-Adriel's medieval armor,

-Beatrice's tabard & knives,

-One of the stunt team's tabards,

-The Halo & "wrought iron" device to remove/hold it,

-Ava's sword,

-A life-sized Tarask.

PS: The fabric parts of the WN costumes are beyond my skill set so I stick to armor, props, creatures, signs, displays & that sort of thing.

I could do Ava's belt, bracers & the "leather" parts of her season 2 costume though.

OCS: If someone wants to commission your services to make a personalized Warrior Nun cosplay item, what should they do? Cost ballpark? Timeframe?

For a custom item, folks just have to message me with the details: photos, sketches, detailed description, etc.

My rate is $48 per hour for design & construction [shipping and material cost are extra]. Depending on the complexity of the item, I can usually have it ready to ship in 10 to 14 days.

OCS: How much would Ava’s vest cost, if fans are interested?

Since I have already done the design work & built the vest, I could build more of them fairly quickly.

As is, Ava's vest would be about $125 plus shipping.

The only additional charges for future commissions would be any alterations or customizations to the existing design.

As we celebrate the great accomplishments in our campaign, we also need to remember the individual talents of every person and their contribution to the cause. Aethon has agreed to share some of the future design templates with the fandom. Be sure to follow @AethonS and @OCSNewsletter on Twitter.
