LETTER TO MY FELLOW HALO BEARERS (5)
Dear Halo Bearers,
That is how long it has been since Warrior Nun season two premiered on Netflix. Five months since the #SaveWarriorNun campaign started. Five months since that sunset post. And since then, we have been relentless, inevitable and unstoppable. Six months since our show aired in November, five since we kicked off our campaign. Time flies when you have a show to save, doesn't it?
It is crazy what we have done in these 5 months. Looking back, I never would have imagined just how big this campaign would get in 5 months. 13,000,000 tweets and counting. 122,000+ signatures on the petition. 400 articles have been written on this campaign. 10 billboards on three different continents and now a mural in Spain. An appearance on the front cover of Empire Magazine. In six months, we have gone from a fan base to an unstoppable force. We are proof that the fans have power. Be proud, Halo Bearers. Be proud. We have every right to be.
Also, we have had some memorable days during these months. I remember the very first billboard that was placed right across Netflix's office. I remember the buzz, the joy and the energy that we as a fandom felt. Simon, KTY and Ames visited the billboard and we were happy to see them take pictures with the billboard. I also remember the video of KTY reading thirst tweets. That video produced some iconic lines such as “whatever goats your boat”, the flip flop, “horny jail, all of you” and “keep begging”. I remember the goodies released by Simon when we got to ten million tweets and how we were so ecstatic to see that part of the script that was shared. There have been food wars, and I still maintain that “team traumatized” is on the right side of this war. And who can forget how KTY, with one picture of her and her curly hair, sent everyone into a virtual meltdown? We really have had some good times as a fandom.
On the other hand, away from the numbers, our biggest accomplishment is the community we have formed. In these five months, we have made friends here. Some of us have physically met up with each other while others plan to do so in the future. We have found people we can relate to, people we can talk to, people that are precious to us. I like to think that everyone in this campaign has made at least one friend here. And if you haven't, that's okay. Honestly, it is as easy as engaging in tweets. We have formed a community that is welcoming, open and all about acceptance. Trust me, you won't have trouble making friends here. This community we have formed here is the foundation of all our successes so far. It is the basis of our unity. So let's keep the peace. Spread love. Be kind. A kind word costs nothing. So why not share all the kind words you can?
In my last message to the fandom, I said that we are running a marathon and we do not know the distance, nor do we know how many hurdles are in our way. And that remains true. But despite that, we will keep running. This campaign might have started out for Warrior Nun, but now it is bigger than that. This campaign is for the representation of the LGBTQ community that has had so many queer shows cancelled already. It is for individuals who feel seen and can relate to those characters on the screen. It is for us and this community that we have formed. This campaign started for Warrior Nun. And while it is still for Warrior Nun, it is now so much more. We all have our reasons for joining this campaign. We all have our reasons for still being here after half a year. Hold on to those reasons. We do not know how long as this will take, but my dear Halo Bearers: Keep fighting!
We have been here for five months. So, my fellow Halo Bearers, THANK YOU. Thank you for being here after almost half a year. Thank you for participating in this campaign. Thank you for fighting in this campaign. Thank you for believing in this campaign. Thank you for keeping the faith.
My dear Halo Bearers, I have three messages for all of us today.
Be proud. Stay United. Keep fighting.
Yours six months and beyond,
M.E.Stanley
