OF SAINTS AND ANGELS

AN INTERVIEW WITH OLIVIA DELCÁN

@evaalduxk

A LITTLE WHILE AGO: the OCS Newsletter decided to reach out to Sister Camila herself to request an interview based on fan questions to be ran in this paper. Long story short, on May 31st, our beloved Oliva Delcán was sitting down with the OCS Newsletter for a double interview: A written and a video edition!

This is just a small sneak peek of the amazing thirty-minute interview that will be released this week on the OCS Newsletter blog, Twitter account and YouTube channel. Make sure to check it out because this is one you don’t want to miss!

OCS NEWSLETTER:

So, before we start this interview, on behalf of the entire fandom, I just wanted to wish you a belated happy birthday.

OLIVIA DELCÁN:

Thank you, thank you very much.

OCS: Now let’s get to it. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: Yeah, my name is Olivia, Olivia Delcán and I got into acting when I was very little, around six years old, but back then it was just for school, I just went to theatre school. And when I was in college, I went to college for journalism, I was also going to an acting studio. But then I decided to just move to New York, because my brother was living there, and to start studying acting. It was the first time in my life that I was doing something that I really, really wanted to do. It felt really good.

OCS: And how did you get involved with Warrior Nun?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: Well, it was a very interesting audition… I first auditioned to a small character and then they asked me to audition for the role of Camila. And one fun fact, my character was supposed to die on season 1, and I only learned about that when we started shooting for Season 2 and David Hayter told me “by the way, I was the one that decided that Camila shouldn’t die”.

OCS: What do you think makes Camila such a beloved character?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: I think… I think it’s because she’s really bright, she’s a really bright person. She always sees the good side of everyone. She’s just very sweet.

OCS: Yeah, if I may, I also believe that she’s beloved because she is a ray of sunshine and because she believes in the good of the fight, of everyone. Whatever is happening, she continues to believe.

OLIVIA DELCÁN: But she also has a very strong temper, which is a contrasting characteristic and endearing, in a way.

@HiredHandStudio

OCS: What did you like the most about season 2?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: I remember the first day of shooting, that I had to like, show the nuns how to make a TikTok.  It was so much fun. It wasn’t really written on the dialogue, so we were just improvising, and I really liked that. And I really like shooting with Sylvia, I really like that duo. And Meena! That was so much fun.

OCS: What other characters would you like to have worked with, or to work with?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: Tristán. He’s just so much fun to work with and I would just love to have more scenes with him. But also Alba, Kristina, Lorena…

OCS: We didn’t get to see much of Camila’s reactions to everything that happened at the OCS by the end of Season Two, from Father Vincent returning to Bea leaving. How do you think Camila would react to it all?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: For Father Vincent, I think she’ll trust Mother Superion, and if the boss thinks you’re cool, then you’re cool, and she knows how to forgive.

OCS: And about Bea?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: As for Bea, I think she’s sad that Bea is leaving, but Camila can see that she isn’t okay, and she wants Bea to be happy. I think when we shot it, Camila was just like, “You go girl, go live your life”.

OCS: Out of curiosity, have you ever been recognized as Camila?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: It’s not very often that I get recognized, it has never happened in Spain, but it did once in Berlin. I was in a club, and someone came up to me and was like, “Hey, I know you, are you a Warrior Nun?”. She was actually very nice.

OCS: Now, about Olivia. Do you have anything going on at the moment that the fandom can support?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: I’m rehearsing a play at the moment, but it’s not going to be up till like, September. But it’s called “All for us”, like the song by Labyrinth in “Euphoria”.

OCS NEWSLETTER: If I’m not mistaken, you have previously mentioned that you’re writing your second play, it’s called Vampires, if I’m not mistaken. How’s that going?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: It's going very well. I’ve actually started rehearsing with the actors. But for me theatre has like a very long process, I like to write and then rehearse and then rewrite, and then rehearse again, and then do the play. And I also wrote a short film, and I'm going to shoot it in Minorca. That's the island where I'm from. So that's very exciting. We're excited.

OCS: And you’ll be directing as well?

OLIVIA DELCÁN: Yeah, it’s going to be the my first short film, my first time directing in fiction.

To be continued…
