Warrior Nun Fan Promo (WNFP) was formed shortly after Warrior Nun was renewed for its second season, primarily in response to the lack of promotion from Netflix. Our mission was simple: to promote the show and maintain momentum in a small community of active Halo Bearers during the extended hiatus. We sought to establish ourselves as the go-to, international account to be welcomed to the fandom, find fanworks, take part in fandom activities, and stay updated on season two news and theories. These were the days when there was no newsletter, no website, or the other large fandom efforts born out of the #SaveWarriorNun campaign. As it turns out, what we have become best known for is our publication series, NUN. This was born out of the desire to celebrate the fandom's talented creators and to preserve the history of the fandom.

Liyag, a NUN. literary folio comes from the long sapphic tradition of compiling anthologies of poetry and essays geared towards love. With Liyag, WNFP hoped to strip down the fandom’s immense talent when it comes to words and showcasing love in many forms.

Liyag is part of the NUN. publication series. The first of the said series is NUN., a fanzine launched during the first anniversary of the show as a culminating activity of the anniversary gathering on Zoom. The wave of traffic after this event to the Fandomentals page hosting the zine crashed their website, and NUN. was read by the crew on the set of Warrior Nun season two. The second publication is another zine, a special holiday edition, called A Very Halo Holiday, which was released later the same year. These zines had nearly 30,000 combined visits and downloads, so we certainly had our work cut out for us with the third instalment.

Unlike its previous two sisters, Liyag is minimalist in form. The team took into consideration several requests to have the two previous zines printed to help promote Warrior Nun and came up with a body of work that would be printer-friendly and not be too costly to have in the physical form.

The idea for Liyag came about when one of the members of WNFP travelled from California to visit the members who are from the Philippines. WNFP real-life meet-ups tend to turn into meetings and this was not an exception. The team tried to brainstorm projects that would help the #SaveWarriorNun effort, but also serve purposes other than saving the show. We all thought that the folio could be a timeless project that happens to be one of the products of the time when the fandom was heroically saving Warrior Nun. Through the folio, WNFP also aimed to showcase the fandom as it had come to know it; a melting pot of creativity and collaboration.

Meanwhile, the idea of Liyad, the slightly NSFW side-B of the literary folio, came about when one of the members of WNFP misheard the suggested title ‘Liyag’ for the folio as the team was brainstorming. Liyag means beloved in Tagalog, while Liyad is a word that sounds similar but with a totally different meaning - to bend backwards with the front of the torso protruding. While Liyag mostly catered to works centred on romantic and familial love, Liyag aimed to explore eros - passionate love - in the Warrior Nun universe.

The folio is also connected to #WNFlashfictionFriday, a tradition run by WNFP on Twitter during the long hiatus between season one and season two of Warrior Nun. Through #WNFlashfictionFriday, the fandom was given prompts every week for them to transform into poetry, flash fiction, and other forms of short-form fiction. Entries made by fans every #WNFlashfictionFriday during the promotional period for the literary folio were considered submissions to the folio.

The fandom has now recently received news that Warrior Nun has been saved. WNFP were as ecstatic as the rest of the Halo Bearers to learn that everyone's efforts have paid off, particularly as we have been with the fandom since its conception. We do not know what form saved Warrior Nun will take, but we eagerly await further announcements.

In this life!
