What Does Our Warrior Nun Mean to You? Fandom Submissions

Recently, nick Bythrow gifted the fandom with his inspiring story of what warrior nun means to him. He then asked us to submit your own story on how the show and fandom have impacted and/or changed your life. The OCS Newsletter is gratEful to the Nine courageous HaloBearers who took the time and energy to share their stories.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

I was happy that I finally found a good show with badass women and a good and funny story. I loved how they build up the characters. I loved it so much and cried even harder when netflix cancelled it. I watched it so many times and will continue to do so.

What it changed for me was that it doesn’t matter if you think you can’t handle something, you have to try it even though it might be hard or it feels impossible.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

Using hashtags, sharing links and telling people about the show so they would watch it too. I am not much of an artist so no fanarts.

Maybe not that helpful but I got a tattoo of the sword and the thorn crown from the show.

Any statement/message you would like to send to the Warrior Nun fandom?

We did great. Every single one of us.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

Warrior Nun really changed my life from the beginning and although the cancellation was very painful I found a refuge in this fandom, I found nice people, who taught me things I never thought I could feel, recently I went through the worst stage of my life and I wanted to give up all this, but for some reason I couldn't and on the contrary Warriornunrun and exercise gave me back the desire to live, so despite all this time Warrior nun continues doing impressive things... oh and thanks to Warrior Nun I finally found the courage to come out of the closet with my brothers, the most important people in my life.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

I don't think I did much, just at one time when we were trying to do daily trends towards 1K tweets a day 😅

Any statement/message you would like to send to the Warrior Nun fandom?

While I was looking for a reason to continue, someone from the fandom told me "HOPE IS THE ONLY THING STRONGER THAN FEAR" and well I mean, maybe it's time to rest for many, but who knows maybe in the future we can have something more of our beloved show, so don't lose hope and "In THIS life" my beloved fandom.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

Falling in love with Warrior Nun was very gradual, I started the series not expecting anything then in the first episode there was a signal or rather a song started that for me was the signal to make me understand "this will become your favorite series", episode after episode My love grew once I got to the sixth episode I was completely madly in love, the eighth episode became my comfort episode the one I watched for two years in a row between the wait for the second season is that episode that I watch again every time I'm sad or when there is a problem or when I simply missed our protagonists, for me the wait for the second season was devastating every day I was always looking for news because by now I was completely enthralled by this story and these characters, Warrior Nun is one of the few things that makes me feel good that I always watch again every time I'm particularly down or when I need something that makes me clear in bad moments, something that even if I'm having the worst day I know that then I will be able to see the faces that I have learned to know and love and they make me feel good, when  the second season came out I was the happiest person in the world because finally my anchor of happiness would return, for me Warrior Nun is one of the few things in my life that make me truly happy, it is and will forever be one of my greatest loves.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

In our beautiful fandom is full of incredibly talented people who for more than two years have been created incredible works that we will all always carry in our hearts, in my small way I have always tried to motivate everyone, to always try to give hope whenever there were thoughts in the air that our battle would not be successful I always tried to give hope and show that we will win our battle, for the moment the situation is not the best But I will continue to give hope

Any statement/message you would like to send to the Warrior Nun fandom?

Dear comrades and friends Halobearers, I would like to say a few words, the situation at the moment is tending very much towards defeat in these last months Warrior Nun has really suffered some very bad beatings and I know that many of us have resigned ourselves to the idea that we will no longer have our show but as our beloved Beatrice also said sometimes you lose a battle to win the war, we are losing many battles lately But I am sure that in the future even if it is very far away we will have our version back, because Warrior Nun belongs to us and no one will ever take it away from us, whether it is in a day a month or another year we will have the news that the story that we all love will return with our version, on the one hand there are those who have never trusted it and on the other there were those who only wanted to profit from it and no one has ever really thought about us or the story it represented, I have hope and confidence that a third person who truly loves Warrior Nun will bring it back to us, for those who have abandoned the battle there is no problem because after all that has happened is  very normal to leave, for those who stayed even if we don't make as much noise as before we must always make ourselves heard

In this life or the next!

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

Warrior nun was like seeing a totally new world fun of potential and mysteries. The series led me to meet new people and make friends.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

My contribution for the fandom was the angst fanarts, i think people don't usually look much at the dramatic moments because we search for a refuge and cozy when joining a fandom. I'm mostly drawing for the characters, i don't post it but, every angst drawing i made have a happy end sequel.

My message is "Drink as much as you can from the resource of your inspiration" there is no shame in making of your passion, a present thing in your life.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

There’s a quote that I always think of when I am asked what does Warrior Nun means to me. It’s from Derek Sheperd from Grey’s anatomy, it is what he decribed Meredith is to him “You were like coming up of fresh air. It’s like I was drowning and you saved me.”

It is very fitting in a way because of how I discovered the show as well. A random boring night and I just, fine let’s watch this show (w/o any background what the show is about) 1st episode and I am immediately hooked. Warrior Nun just saved me from all the things that’s drowning me. It was also the time that I failed my board exam and I have no direction with what I want in my life at that moment, then diving into the show, to the fandom somehow gave me a fresh start. I met good people, made friendships. I also became confident with my sexuality.

KTY was the biggest part of it all, her cameos gave me inspiration to be daringly be who I am. I am not confident with myself but with her tips and things she had shared to the fandom about herself made me inspired to be the version of myself that I love.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

Probably making smau’s and sharing it to the fandom.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

Warrior Nun changed my life in so many ways. I found SO many supporting friends through the fandom. And few of them changed my life ! Literally !  Can't even express that gratitude I have for them (and for the WHOLE FANDOM) even though we are from other parts of the world/country. I am so & very grateful ! Because of one of these kind & more than generous friends I could legally change my last name (YES WN related & finally get rid of that one I hated since eternity).

Also I saved in a hard way, money to get my WN tattoos cause it was like a promise to myself to not give up & keep fighting.

KTY´s handwriting, that iconic line

“Be free, In this life or the next"

Also In Ava´s handwriting " I WANT TO LIVE "

Having these tattoos & looking at them daily, brings me courage & hope. + the Halo tattoo - for the reminder of - how fragile life can be.

And the show? Well I was hooked in the few first seconds I saw it. Watching WN changed my life in ways I couldn’t even imagine. Ava´s (and the whole) story resonated with me deeply (because I was in a wheelchair too for some time, but that's not only why it hits me that hard). Idk how to describe it, but WN is & was IT! I will never forget Warrior Nun & will keep these feelings & emotions & everything that it bringed to me in this life & in the next !

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

I supported everything possible. Obvi signing a petition was the start. Donations - in my possibilities. And absolutely spreading the word. Tweeting like a crazy, voting in all pols & supporting every talented artist which I could.( I did some little art of my own ) Buying INCREDIBLE stuff from them. Like The HaloBearer necklace - which I wear ever since it arrived ! And OF COURSE Our ♥ HALO BOOK ! Also attended our first HaloBearer Con in London! I met the casts & told them how they changed so much for so many of us. Also Uplifting every mention abt WN in the news & sharing all WN stuff possible.

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?  How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

This show has had a million tiny and huge effects on me. To put it simply in a single word, I would say that warrior nun has given me freedom. Freedom to be the major nerd that I am, to fawn over the amazing cast and crew, freedom to read and discuss fanfics with people I’ve never even met, and the freedom to fight like hell for things that matter, even though other people might not understand why it’s so important to me. The community and understanding that this fandom has is unmatched. We have all been bound together by the turmoil of cancellation and everything that happened since and become so resilient. I know I’ve become stronger and more accepting of myself over the last three years, and I credit that to the fandom as much if not more than the show. So thank you halobearers❤️

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

I of course had my 🦀 count which recently came to an end. I hope that the memes helped buoy fandom spirits.

I’ve also helped some other folks with painting their 3D sculptures providing advice and recommendations.

Of course can’t not mention PHD! I hope folks have enjoyed our cast, crew, and fandom interviews.

Although I’m on Twitter less now, I still have my fanfic recommendation account active to help showcase the amazing avatrice works on AO3

What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?

- This question has always been a big overwhelming topic for me. That's because I don't feel good enough with using my words, and because the ony right word to describe my feeling is...Love. "Amore", in Italian, because it has a stronger meaning.

With the whole meaning of this words, Warrior Nun saved my life.

Warrior Nun helped me create a new version of myself, something that made me believe in the joy of living again. It helped me with anxiety, with suicidal thoughts, with depression. Warrior Nun made me believe again in the goodness of the people, in the real meaning of "love", "family" and "friendship".

Well, coming back to the question 'What does our Warrior Nun mean to you?', my answer will always be: It means a new view of the world, a new color in a grey village, a pair of glasses to make everything clear, a light when lost in the Ocean.

How has watching the show changed your life, whether it be in a small or even drastic way?

- I kinda answered in the previous question, but let's talk about the details: with and for Warrior Nun, I was able to visit a new country (task that seemed impossible just 3 months previous the trip), with and for Warrior Nun I danced for the first time in a crowded room, with and for Warrior Nun I discovered that I was able to live again and not only to survive.

Ava taught me that, and somehow I kinda started to run on the sand with her.

What have you done to contribute to the fandom, whether that be creating fan works, engaging with them, or posting about your support of the series?

This amazing fandom made me realize that I actually wanted to try anything, just to contribute and to give to the others.

I made a looot of edits (and fake-trailers for s3 and fics) , I wrote fanfiction(s), there's a SMAU that I'm working on, I made art, engaged with basically everyone (out of character for me in the...real world?) just because everyone made me feel safe enough.

...and I ate a kiwi with the skin on, but somehow this is normal for our fandom, isn't it?

We're kinda back to the start now, but I truly believe in our power. We've achieved so many things during these years, and even if sometimes it seems to slow down, I know that our wave will never crush for too long.

We have power in our devotion, we have power in our Ocean of love, we're simply fucking powerful as the goddam Warrior Nun!
